The inimitable Kelly McFarling brings us her only West Marin performance of the summer, with very special guests from the national touring circuit, Chris Acker and Kassi Valazza (solo).

Kelly McFarling grew up riding the prolific RnB radio stations and lady folk waves of Atlanta, GA in the early 90's. This incubation translated to a songwriter anchored in melody, metaphor and potent observation. McFarling began playing original songs in the Bay Area as an adult and quickly became known for her dynamic gut-punch of a live show. She spent the next decade touring and releasing music independently; earning a devoted following as a versatile indie-folk singer-songwriter with spacious and tasty groove. Garnering comparisons to Laura Marling, Bonnie Raitt, and Dottie West, McFarling’s voice anchors into the power of well-crafted songs, delivered with emotion.Her current iteration features a lush band of Bay Area beloveds; Featuring Kelly McFarling (vox, keys, guitar) Andrew Brennan (guitars), Tim Marcus, (pedal steel) Nick Cobbett, (drums) Brittany Powers (vocals, acoustic guitar), and Danny Vitali (bass).

In a genre full of tall tales and marketable lies, New Orleans’ Chris Acker crafts candid songs – weaving his wit and woes into a body of work that exposes the stale plight of the American Songster to the honest, and sometimes hilarious, light of day. In the tradition of Guthrie and Prine, Chris lends a quavering voice to the half-rotten romance of the unremarkable and unrefined.

Kassi Valazza grew up between Prescott and Phoenix, Arizona. She penned her first song at age ten but in those early efforts to perform, found herself halted by stage fright of a clinical level. "I've gone to therapy for it," she says, half-laughing. She didn't stop writing music but she let less paralyzing means of expression lead the way, eventually enrolling in arts school for painting, an illustrative instinct that inevitably reveals itself in her vivid songwriting. It wasn't until she relocated to the Pacific Northwest as an adult that Valazza picked back up the proverbial — and actual — guitar.
